San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle appears to be in good spirits after suffering a devastating torn Achilles injury on Sunday.

The tight end posted a message on Instagram on Monday, admitting that while “football sucks sometimes,” he’ll “be good.”

Kittle was carted off the field during the second quarter of the Niners’ wild-card matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, and head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed after the game that he had torn his Achilles.

“Losing George is different,” fullback Kyle Juszczyk told reporters after the game. “That’s the heart and soul of our team. He brings so much energy, and just what an incredible player that he is. That definitely hurts a lot. But even when he was down, he was still positive. I came in at halftime and he was smiling and he said, ‘I’m not dead yet, man. I’ll be back. Go win it.’ That meant a lot.”

The injury put a cap on what has been a disappointing season for the seven-time Pro Bowler. He missed six games during the regular season because of a hamstring injury, marking the second-fewest games he’s ever played.

He finished the 2025 campaign with 628 yards and seven touchdowns, snapping a two-year streak of 1,000 or more receiving yards. Unfortunately, a torn Achilles requires a lengthy recovery time, so Kittle will almost certainly miss a good portion of the 2026 season.

The 49ers now have a tall task ahead of them, making a playoff run without Kittle. They managed to get past the Eagles in the first round, but will now face the top-seeded Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round.
