The NFL community continues to speculate why Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is holding a private workout with the New York Giants one week before the team likely spends the No. 3 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News offered an interesting theory for an article published on Tuesday.

According to Leonard, the workout “reinforces what the Daily News has heard throughout the process: that there are supporters of Sanders in the Giants’ building but that not everyone is sold. …Maybe Sanders’ camp leaked the Giants’ planned visit to juice up the quarterback’s sliding draft stock. Maybe someone in the Giants’ building wanted it out there to push their agenda on the player or the pick.”

Sanders’ alleged stock has become arguably the most fascinating story of the pre-draft process. While he once was seen as the consensus QB2 of his draft class behind Miami’s Cam Ward, some now
have Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart and/or Louisville’s Tyler Shough above Sanders on their overall draft boards.

“The Giants organization got caught Twitter-watching again on Tuesday and seemingly tried its best to clarify that Sanders was far from the only quarterback prospect receiving a late private workout,” Leonard continued. “The team is also reportedly doing private workouts this week with Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and Louisville’s Tyler Shough, on top of the extensive work they’ve done on Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart, which included a private workout in mid-March.”

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Adam Schefter also thinks individuals within the Giants are split on what Sanders will and won’t be as a pro.

“I think there are people who believe that Shedeur Sanders has real support in certain segments of the Giants’ building but not as much in others,” Schefter said during a Tuesday appearance on the “NFL Live” program, per Jeremy Pike of Steelers Depot. “And that may explain some of what’s going on right now: that there are people that are willing to go with Shedeur at this point in time, others not as comfortable.”

In their latest mock drafts posted on Wednesday, Newsday’s Tom Rock and Dane Brugler of The Athletic predicted that the Giants will select Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter over Sanders with the draft’s third choice. Rock has the Giants trading with the Carolina Panthers so that Big Blue can get Sanders at pick No. 8, while Brugler thinks the Giants will grab Milroe with the second selection of the draft’s second round at No. 34 overall.
