It has been two years since Nyheim Hines suffered a serious injury in an unfortunate accident, and the veteran running back has found an NFL team that is willing to give him another shot.
Hines agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Hines has not played in an NFL game since 2022, when he was with the Buffalo Bills. He signed with the Cleveland Browns last season but never appeared in a regular-season game for them.
The Indianapolis Colts drafted Hines in the fourth round in 2018, and he was a productive player for them for several seasons. Hines was traded to the Buffalo Bills midway through the 2022 season. He appeared in nine games for Buffalo and played a significant role in the kick return game.
In July 2023, Hines suffered a torn ACL when he was sitting on a jet ski that was struck by another watercraft. He has not played since and has vowed to not put himself in that type of situation again.
Hines, 28, was once a strong receiving threat out of the backfield. He had 40 or more catches in each of his four full seasons with the Colts. Hines will face an uphill battle to make the roster in Los Angeles, but he has been given an opportunity to prove he can still contribute.
