The Green Bay Packers are one of the most historic franchises in professional sports, not just in the NFL.

It’s such a unique thing the Packers have to offer. A franchise that was founded in 1919, the Packers became a publicly owned corporation in 1923. They’re the only publicly owned, non-profit team in the United States.

Back then, football was, of course, still in its infancy. At first, some players didn’t even wear helmets. When helmets became the standard, they were made of leather.

Green Bay has boasted several throwback uniforms in the past meant to honor its rich history and tradition, but it just revealed their newest concept that’s a first for the NFL.

The jersey look has been seen before. It may seem jarring to those who don’t know the Packers’ history, but their colors used to be navy and dark gold. What’s different, and unique, are the helmets.

For the first time in NFL history, the Packers will wear hand-painted helmets that are meant to look like the vintage leather helmets worn by the NFL’s first players.
