The Los Angeles Rams are finding out just how difficult back problems can be.
Veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford has missed training camp this summer due to an aggravated disc in his back. He participated in a workout on Saturday before the Rams’ first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday.
On Saturday, Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters that Stafford was expected to return to practice on Monday. However, Stafford showed up to the practice in street clothes and has yet to practice with the team this week.
On Thursday, McVay provided a less-than-promising update on Stafford.
Per Sarah Bishop of ESPN, Stafford is set to work out on Saturday before the Rams’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team will see how Stafford’s back responds to the stress of the activity.
As of right now, the Rams have no clue when Stafford will be healthy enough to practice, and the team is experimenting with “different things” for the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
“We’re trying to get our hands around this as well, so I don’t really have much more information other than think we’re trying some different things that are hopefully going to be in alignment with getting him back out on the field,” McVay said.
