Shortly after the New York Jets fell to 2-8 on the season via an ugly 27-14 loss at the New England Patriots (9-2) on Thursday night, first-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn suggested that film from the game would show that quarterback Justin Fields did some “really good things” at Gillette Stadium.

It appears Glenn may have changed his mind after reviewing the film ahead of his media availability on Friday.

Aaron Glenn is now “evaluating” quarterback situation after latest Justin Fields dud

As shared by ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Glenn was asked if he’s considering benching Fields in favor of backup Tyrod Taylor.

“I’m evaluating everything,” Glenn responded, per SNY. “I’m evaluating myself, the players, schematics, coaches. I’m evaluating everything, so I don’t want to just place everything on that one situation. I’m just looking at everything. As a head coach, that’s my job, to make sure I put this team in the best position to go win games.”

Willie Colon, Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Richard Sherman were among the noteworthy former NFL players who said during postgame shows that Glenn failed to put his team “in the best position” to win when he elected not to bench Fields for Taylor on Thursday night.

Against New England, Fields completed 15-of-26 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. It was the fifth time across his nine starts this season that he failed to reach at least 120 passing yards in a game. He passed for under 60 yards in the other four contests.

Why Jets may turn to Tyrod Taylor now

Taylor is a 36-year-old journeyman who certainly isn’t a long-term answer at the position for any team at this stage of his career. That said, the Jets won’t play again until they face the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore on Nov. 23. History shows teams often use these so-called mini-byes to make significant changes.

Additionally, Glenn may realize that he could be in danger of losing the locker room if he keeps playing Fields. For what it’s worth, he mentioned on Friday that he isn’t in favor of altering his depth chart simply to give the Jets a “spark” ahead of the Ravens game:
