Second-year New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart and second-year pass-rusher Abdul Carter unexpectedly became the subjects of a potential controversy after Carter seemed to react negatively online to a video showing Dart introducing President Donald Trump at a recent event in New York.

Carter later shared that he and Dart “spoke earlier as men” and “are good.” Dart has also taken steps to ensure this issue doesn’t become a distraction for the Giants.

Jaxson Dart addressed the Giants over the introduction of President Trump

On Thursday morning, NFL reporter Jordan Raanan of ESPN revealed that “Dart addressed teammates Wednesday during a team meeting to discuss his introduction of President Donald Trump at an event last week in New York.”

Giants offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor previously insisted that the team’s locker room was “fine” after the situation involving Dart, Carter and Trump first generated headlines. Per Kevin McCormick of Heavy, Giants icon Tiki Barber later said on the WFAN show that Barber co-hosts that this story would “not at all” cause any real problems within the team amid springtime workouts.

Jaxson Dart wasn’t the only Giants player who spoke after the President Trump controversy

According to Raanan, Brian Burns, fellow pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux and backup quarterback Jameis Winston were among the Giants’ locker-room leaders who spoke during the meeting.

“Sources said that among the topics discussed were keeping things ‘internal’ and not airing frustrations publicly,” Raanan explained.

Raanan also added that Dart “was approached recently about meeting the President during a trip to New York.”

“Look, Big Blue Nation, it’s a pleasure to be here. I’ve got to start this off with a ‘Go Big Blue.’ I’d love if you all would follow with me,” Dart said before he led the crowd in the chant at the event. “What an honor, what a privilege it is to be here. And without further ado, I’m grateful, I’m honored, I’m pleasured to introduce the 45th and 47th president of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump.”

This past Tuesday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News mentioned that “the Giants sent a clear message” when they “leaked to team-friendly media that Dart had not approached the team about Trump’s invitation and that they were not thrilled about the quarterback’s decision to do a ‘Go Big Blue’ chant at the rally.”

It seems likely that reporters will eventually ask Dart about what he did and or didn’t say while addressing the team regarding this matter.
