There’s been optimism all offseason that Cameron Jordan will return to New Orleans for a 16th season. The actual signing may now be on the horizon.
According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football, the veteran defender is flying to New Orleans tomorrow for a sit-down with Saints brass. While there remains mutual interest in a deal, nothing is imminent. Still, this meeting will represent a significant development in negotiations.
The 2011 first-round pick has spent his entire career with the Saints, where he owns the franchise record with 132 career sacks. He inked a two-year, $27.5MM extension with the organization in 2023 that would keep him in New Orleans through the 2025 campaign.
After accepting a pay cut to return to the Saints last offseason, Jordan played out the year on a deal worth $6.1MM. He ended up outplaying that value, as he finished the season with 10.5 sacks, his highest total since the 2021 campaign. Despite 2025 representing the veteran’s age-36 season, Jordan also finished 23rd among 119 qualifying edge defenders in Pro Football Focus’ positional rankings.
Jordan clearly showed he has plenty left in the tank, and the pass rusher made it clear that retirement was not a consideration. While he assuredly has options beyond New Orleans for 2026, Jordan also stated that he’s interested in staying with the only franchise he’s ever played for. The Saints reportedly made him an offer earlier this offseason, and while there’s been no notable progress since then, head coach Kellen Moore recently reiterated his hope that the eight-time Pro Bowler will choose to stay.
While the Saints were linked to pass rushers during the pre-draft process, they left the weekend without addressing the position. The organization’s most notable move on the edge saw them send the Raiders a fifth-round selection for Tyree Wilson in a pick-swap trade. The acquisition joins a New Orleans edge-rushing group headlined by Chase Young and Carl Granderson. While that’s some serviceable depth, the Saints should still easily be able to slide their franchise icon back atop the depth chart.
