Dak Prescott is one of those quarterbacks who’s always had flashes of greatness, but the timing was never quite right, and something was always off. His injuries haven’t helped, but aside from that, Prescott is the kind of Dallas Cowboys player who seems like he could win the MVP award but never gets close because of random things going wrong.
But, over the years, it’s been hard to deny that Prescott has talent. A lot of it. But the NFL hasn’t always noticed that talent, probably because the Cowboys haven’t been a strong enough team the past few seasons.
This year is different, though. Prescott had a strong showing in 2025. He started in all 17 games and notched 4,552 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns and just 10 interceptions.
The league is taking notice. Finally.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott gets glowing ranking
ESPN unveiled its roster of the best quarterbacks in the league for 2026 on Monday, as decided by league executives, coaches and scouts. In the piece, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler puts Prescott at No. 6 in the NFL. There are a lot of teams who’d like to see their signal-caller at No. 6.
“He’s a true, acute progression passer,” one NFL coordinator said of Prescott. “There are only so many of those types. He can read the whole field, from pre- to post-snap. He’s just really a good commander of the offense.”
“Prescott was a fixture in the voting, appearing on nearly 75% of ballots with a healthy number of top-five votes,” Fowler wrote of the quarterback. “In fact, a gulf existed between him and the seventh spot on the list. This is long overdue for Prescott, who has mostly been a fringe top-10 QB on these lists.”
So, were there any points for improvement? One AFC offensive coach suggested he “run for first downs” more often, which isn’t bad advice.
