As part of their efforts to upgrade their offensive line, the Bengals invested a first-round pick in Amarius Mims during the 2024 draft. The early returns on that move have been encouraging.

Mims was viewed as a raw prospect coming out of college, but he has started 30 of his 32 appearances to date. The former No. 18 pick is set to remain a full-time presence at the right tackle spot this season and beyond. Given his early career arc, Mims could be in line for a big-money extension.

Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic writes Mims can be considered a logical candidate for Cincinnati’s next major financial commitment on offense. An extension in this case cannot be finalized until at least next offseason, and the Bengals could elect to pick up the Georgia product’s fifth-year option in 2027. That would ensure another two years of team control in this case, but Cincinnati has not been shy when it comes to authorizing major paydays on offense in particular during the Joe Burrow era.

Burrow has a significant extension in hand, with the same also being true of receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Along the offensive line, only left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. has a pact averaging eight figures per year. That could change as soon as the 2027 offseason, provided Mims manages to deliver another strong showing this year. As Dehner notes, the 23-year-old is positioned to cement his status as the anchor of Cincinnati’s offensive line in 2026. The unit has improved over recent years, and Mims’ performances have played a key role in that regard.

The Bengals extended Brown this spring, one in which they also re-signed guard Dalton Risner. The latter is positioned to continue operating as a right guard starter, and continuity up front will be critical as Cincinnati looks to avoid adding further to Burrow’s injury history this year. Success on that front would presumably include an effective campaign on the part of Mims, who improved in terms of PFF evaluation in 2025 and ranked 40th out of 84 offensive tackles in overall grade.

Another step forward will be something to watch for in the fall. If Mims is able to take it, his candidacy for an early extension will become a Bengals talking point during the 2027 offseason.
