No Superstar’s path to Minneapolis and SummerSlam is cloudier and more uncertain than Sami Zayn’s.
He reinvented himself as the Last Real Good Guy, won the Undisputed WWE Championship that had eluded him, lost it nine days later, and has remained in the main event scene.
Yet, with Punk and Rhodes slated for a match-up, and Gunther almost certainly squaring off with Nick Aldis in the SmackDown general manager’s return to the squared circle, it leaves Zayn as the odd man out of the summertime spectacular.
Sure, WWE Creative could find something for him to do, but based on his stature and placement on the card, it would feel like a considerable step down and a potential momentum killer for a guy who once again overcame the odds, made a bigger star out of himself, but now appears poised to miss out on a meaningful role at a signature, premium live event.
