The New England Patriots wanted to add A.J. Brown to the mix this offseason, with everything that comes with him.
The talented wideout is also well-versed in the fine art of trash-talking and getting in the defense’s heads, and Christian Gonzalez is learning that firsthand.
According to Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal, things got a bit heated in the Patriots’ Monday practice.
Apparently, Brown and Gonzalez almost went at it after the former Philadelphia Eagles star beat him for a touchdown.
A.J. Brown and Christian Gonzalez are bringing the heat to Patriots training camp
“As Brown reeled in the touchdown, he quickly swung his arm back at the sticky cornerback, and for a moment, it looked like we might have our first scuffle. Instead, cooler heads prevailed. But it might be a matter of time – say tomorrow – before something pops off,” wrote Giardi.
These things happen in sports all the time, and while it shouldn’t be overlooked, fans shouldn’t read too much into it, either.
Of course, Brown’s temper will make him someone worth keeping a close eye on, but that’s just a part of the game.
Iron sharpens iron, and Gonzalez will only get better as he keeps holding his own against one of the best pass-catchers in the game every day of the week.
Competitors never enjoy losing, but the best way to get back at his teammate will be to beat him in the next drill.
