New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel makes weekly in-season appearances on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” a show that spent much of September detailing the struggles endured by Patriots starting quarterback Drake Maye ever since he tossed three interceptions in the fourth quarter of New England’s season-opening loss at the Seattle Seahawks.

As shared by Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun and the Savageboston X/Twitter account, Hill suggested during Wednesday’s edition of his program that the working relationship between Vrabel and Maye isn’t all that great this fall.

A lingering “issue” between Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel hovering over the Patriots?

“We were whispered to about this,” Hill explained. “We talked about it yesterday on this very show. We talked about being whispered to about an issue between the head coach and the quarterback, which goes back, if you believe this individual who’s an insider, he’s very much an insider, it goes back to [day one].”

Vrabel accepted the Patriots job in January 2025, less than a year after the previous coaching staff had a role in New England selecting Maye in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Vrabel and Maye then helped the Patriots complete a trip to the Super Bowl, and Maye finished second in regular-season MVP voting behind Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

More recently, Maye became responsible
for a league-worst seven total turnovers over the first three weeks of the season. He also reportedly “befuddled” people within the Patriots for the way he declined on multiple occasions this week to strongly deny that the injury to his throwing shoulder he dealt with in early 2026 is affecting him this fall.

Is Drake Maye not one of Mike Vrabel’s “guys?”

“Despite what Mike Vrabel has said publicly, it goes back to Drake Maye not being his guy,” Hill added. “Mike Vrabel is a ‘his guy’ kind of coach. Since he got here, he’s gone out and gotten all of ‘his guys.'”

History shows that winning can cure all that is ailing a player or/and a team going through a difficult time. That said, it seems likely that Vrabel and Maye will be asked about this show segment during media availabilities as the 1-2 Patriots prepare to play at the rival Buffalo Bills (3-0) this coming Sunday.
