Shortly after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squandered a 16-3 lead en route to suffering a 26-19 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers that dropped Tampa Bay to 1-5 on Sunday, current Steelers cornerback and former Buccaneers player Jamel Dean told Ira Kaufman of the JoeBucsFan website that the massive turnout of Pittsburgh fans at Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium made it feel like “we were the home team.”

Following his club’s defeat, star Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs spoke with JoeBucsFan about Steelers fans invading Tampa Bay’s home stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Tristan Wirfs knows Buccaneers haven’t given fans reasons to cheer, attend games

“Can you blame [Bucs fans]? You know, we’re 1-4 and haven’t really given them much to cheer about,” Wirfs acknowledged. “So, yeah, it sucks. It sucks when you’re going damn near silent count at home. But you gotta give [fans] something to cheer for.”

The Buccaneers were coming off a stunning 24-16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys that Tampa Bay earned on Oct. 8, but that win lost its luster for the NFC South side by the time Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh wrapped up. Jalon Daniels looked like an undrafted rookie quarterback as he tossed a pair of interceptions and took five sacks in the loss to the Steelers. As shared by Greg Auman of Fox Sports, it was unclear as of Monday whether Tampa Bay starting quarterback Baker Mayfield (dislocated thumb) could return to the lineup for the club’s Week 7 game at the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 25.

As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Tampa Bay as a 3.5-point road underdog against Carolina.

Tristan Wirfs, Buccaneers were rather upset after loss to Steelers

“I’d say we’re pretty p—–,” Wirfs said when asked about the mood inside the Buccaneers’ locker room following the loss to the Steelers. “Yeah, I’d say that’s the mood.”

It was previously suggested that the Buccaneers could part ways with head coach Todd Bowles if the club has a woeful record when it enters its Week 10 bye. How Bowles’ players respond following Sunday’s defeat could show whether or not they intend to fight for their coach’s job through at least Week 9.
