Storm Duck began the season on the reserve/PUP list. The third-year cornerback had his practice window opened three weeks ago, but he will not resume his time with the Dolphins.

Instead, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports Duck is being cut. Players must be signed to the active roster with 21 days of returning to practice in the case of the PUP list or injured reserve. Duck would have been out for the remainder of the season had the Dolphins opted to keep him in the organization. Instead, a trip to waivers is now in store.

Arriving in the NFL as an undrafted free agent, Duck made 14 appearances and three starts as a rookie. In 2025, knee and ankle injuries limited him to just two games played. When on the field, Duck has managed a total of 37 tackles and five pass deflections. The 25-year-old has largely struggled in coverage, though.

The Dolphins have fellow cornerback Darrell Baker on the reserve/PUP list at this time. His practice window has not yet been opened. In the meantime, Miami will proceed with Chris Johnson, Jason Marshall Jr., JuJu Brents, Marcellas Dial Jr., Jaylin Simpson and Reese Taylor at the cornerback spot.

Earlier today, it was learned the Dolphins would be bringing back kicker Zane Gonzalez on a practice squad deal. To little surprise, Riley Patterson is being released, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Patterson has missed two field goal attempts and one extra point early in 2026. Kick coverage has also been an issue for Miami, with the team allowing a league-worst 34.1 yards per return in that regard. The team will aim for an improvement on that front with Gonzalez handling kicking duties.

Patterson – who re-signed on a one-year deal worth $1.4MM – did not receive any guaranteed money, meaning his release will generate a dead cap charge. Duck will join him in free agency provided he clears waivers.
