Davante Adams has joined Myles Garrett and Kobie Turner among Rams placed on IR. While the future Hall of Fame wide receiver plans to undergo surgery to expedite his recovery, Los Angeles will be down a key weapon for several weeks.
With the team 2-4 after another last-second loss, looking into some short-term help appears under consideration. Adam La Rose’s most recent PFR mailbag referenced the Rams’ explosive offseason regarding an additional look into the trade market for immediate help, considering the injury trouble that has emerged, and ESPN.com’s Dan Graziano indicates receiver is an area the team will look at bolstering.
The Rams already traded for one wideout, reacquiring Tutu Atwell from the Dolphins, but the diminutive former second-rounder has only three catches for 31 yards upon returning to L.A. Second-year player Konata Mumpfield has made a bigger impact thus far, tallying eight receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown. As pressure mounts for the Rams to turn things around in Matthew Stafford’s age-38 season, the team may not view the 2025 seventh-rounder as a capable No. 2 receiver just yet.
Adding to the team’s troubles here, ESPN.com’s Sarah Barshop notes Puka Nacua left practice early today with a calf injury. The younger of the Rams’ two All-Pro receivers missed time because of hip and groin trouble earlier this season and battled a core muscle injury in training camp. The Rams being without Nacua to start an Adams-less stretch would force a reliance on the run game and the team’s tight end cadre.
As Adam referenced in the mailbag, the Rams are lighter on draft capital than most after trading their 2027 first- and third-round picks (in the Garrett and Trent McDuffie deals). They are also down their 2028 second-round pick and their 2029 third-rounder, which were sent to Cleveland in June. They also have just less than $990K in cap space, per OverTheCap. Beyond a player-for-player trade, the Rams are in a tight spot. They can turn to the restructure well, though trade chips may be present in player contracts. Graziano mentions Stetson Bennett as a potential piece that could be moved, while Fox Sports’ Eric Williams includes tight end Colby Parkinson as a possible option.
Bennett drew trade interest this offseason, and first-rounder Ty Simpson is on track to usurp him as the team’s QB2 at some point — perhaps this season (Bennett played for Browns HC Todd Monken at Georgia). Parkinson has seen a regular role this season, playing 206 offensive snaps, but the Rams did draft his presumptive successor in Max Klare (Round 2) in April.
Tyler Higbee is healthy, though he has been injury-prone in recent years, while Terrance Ferguson is expected back this season. Ferguson is not ready to return for a bit, however. That would complicate a Parkinson exit. Parkinson’s three-year, $22.5MM deal (one including a $5.5MM 2026 base salary) expires at season’s end.
Wideouts Brian Thomas Jr., Chris Godwin, Jerry Jeudy, Josh Palmer and Jauan Jennings have been mentioned as trade candidates recently. Contract work would be required in most of these cases. Keenan Allen, who has spent most of his career in L.A., is a 34-year-old on a Colts team in transition. Calvin Ridley, 31, is in a similar situation in Tennessee. Both are on expiring low-cost deals.
