Monday brought about news that DaVon Hamilton suffered a torn quad in Week 8. The veteran Jaguars defensive tackle is facing a lengthy recovery as a result.

To no surprise, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen confirmed (via ESPN’s Michael DiRocco) Hamilton is out for the remainder of the season. The pending free agent’s absence will be felt along the defensive interior. It will be interesting to see if Hamilton being sidelined will increase Jacksonville’s pursuit of a defensive tackle addition ahead of next week’s trade deadline.

Coen also said safety Eric Murray is done for the year. An elbow injury will bring his 2026 campaign to an end. Murray has logged a defensive snap share of 67% in 2026. That is a drop from last year, his debut season in Jacksonville, but it means another regular contributor will be unavailable moving forward for the 5-2 Jags.

Murray was among the Jaguars players whose contracts were restructured in March. His deal runs through next season, although none of his scheduled base salary ($6MM) for 2027 is guaranteed at this point. That could hinder the 32-year-old’s chances of remaining in the fold beyond the coming months.

Jacksonville currently ranks second in the NFL in scoring defense. The team sits just 29th in terms of passing yards allowed per game, however. Losing Murray could result in second-year general manager James Gladstone turning his attention toward help in the secondary on the trade market. The Jags are near the bottom of the league in terms of cap space, but a modest addition should be manageable.
