While it certainly seems like the New York Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers will part ways during the upcoming offseason (if not sooner), multiple reports have indicated he wants to play at least one more season even though he turns 41 years old in early December.

For a piece published Tuesday, multiple former players suggested during chats with Rich Cimini of ESPN that Rodgers could struggle to find a new NFL home when the next league year opens in March 2025.

“I don’t know if there’s a team out there where you could point at the roster and say, ‘Hey, they just need one good quarterback for one solid year,'” retired fullback John Kuhn, Rodgers’ former teammate, said about the signal-caller’s uncertain future. “We thought the Jets were that team two years ago. We thought the Jets were as close a team as you could have to being one piece away.”

Fans will forever wonder if the 2023 Jets were “one piece away” from reaching at least the wild-card round of the playoffs, as Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles four offensive snaps into his first season with the organization. He has since largely failed to impress with his play this fall, and ESPN stats show that the 3-8 Jets head into Week 13 ranked 27th in the league with an average of 18.5 points scored per game.

According to Pro Football Reference, Rodgers began Tuesday ranked 26th in the NFL among qualified players with a 51.4 total QBR and 21st with an 88.9 passer rating for the campaign. He tossed 17 touchdown passes with seven interceptions over New York’s first 11 games.

“I see a guy in Aaron, he looks like a guy who doesn’t want to get hit anymore,” former Jets tackle and current analyst Damien Woody told Cimini. “He looks old. He doesn’t push the ball down the field at all. He can’t run. He looks like a 40-year-old quarterback. That’s what he looks like.”

Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich confirmed on Monday that Rodgers will start when Gang Green hosts the 6-5 Seattle Seahawks this coming Sunday. Whether or not that proves to be Rodgers’ final game as an active New York player shall be seen.
