The main event of the show saw Rhodes defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against his former friend, Owens.
This feud has been building for a couple of months, but it has picked up a lot of momentum in recent weeks. KO still sees himself as the good guy, and frankly, so do a lot of members of the WWE Universe.
The fans haven’t turned against Rhodes, but many believe Owens is justified in his anger. The phrase “Kevin Owens did nothing wrong” has become very common on social media.
Donning the classic winged eagle WWE Championship, Rhodes walked into the match hoping to put this feud behind him once and for all. The Prize Fighter didn’t make it easy for him though.
After two different officials were taken out during the match, Owens looked like he had it won before Rhodes hit his finisher on top of a steel chair to get the win.
Having KO lose this way not only protects him, but it gives him an argument for an eventual rematch since he had Rhodes pinned at one point when the first ref was down.
This is a feud with a lot of life left in it, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Owens challenge him again at The Royal Rumble next month.
