At least one recent report indicated that the Tennessee Titans could consider trading the No. 1 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft even though many insiders believe Tennessee plans to select Miami’s Cam Ward, the consensus top quarterback in this year’s class, at No. 1.
Coming off Ward’s impressive pro day workout, it now seems more members of the NFL community are convinced the Titans will make him the draft’s first choice on April 24.
“General consensus seems to be that the Titans, who recently had dinner with Ward, will take him No. 1 overall,” Cleveland Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote for an article updated on Monday afternoon. “It’s unlikely that the Browns, who hosted Ward for a top 30 predraft visit on March 5, would try to trade up to get him at No. 1, in part because they probably realize it’s futile.”
Later in the day, well-respected longtime NFL writer Gary Myers reported that a source told him that “there’s virtually no doubt the Titans are taking Cam Ward” with the draft’s first pick. For an article published on Monday night, Browns reporter Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland/The Land on Demand wrote that the club “might have intel that agrees with the national perspective that Tennessee has no intention of trading the No. 1 pick or passing on Ward.”
The Browns (overall pick No. 2) and New York Giants (No. 3) were previously mentioned as teams that could move up in the draft order with Ward in mind. Meanwhile, the Titans seemingly had no interest in acquiring a big-name starting quarterback such as Sam Darnold, Geno Smith or Justin Fields when they were available earlier in March. According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, “the Titans would like to transition” away from 2023 second-round draft pick Will Levis this spring or summer.
It’s unclear if the Titans would name Ward their 2025 Week 1 QB1.
For a mock draft published on Tuesday morning, former NFL general manager and current ESPN personality Mike Tannenbaum said that taking Ward at No. 1 is now “an easy decision for Tennessee.” Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders is expected to be the second quarterback drafted on April 24, and he could go to the Browns at No. 2 or to the Giants at No. 3.
Tannenbaum linked Sanders with the Giants for Tuesday’s article.
