Quarterback Bo Nix is looking to build off of a solid rookie campaign after the 12th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft guided the Denver Broncos to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth.

Part of the Broncos’ attempts to help Nix this offseason involved giving him new weapons via the signing of tight end Evan Engram and the selection of running back RJ Harvey in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft.

For a piece published on Monday, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic detailed how Engram, Harvey and others on the roster could help Nix improve his deep-ball efficiency as a second-year pro.

“He ranked 27th among 36 qualified QBs in EPA (expected points added) per dropback on throws of 25 or more air yards,” Kosmider wrote about Nix. “The hope for the Broncos is that the addition of ‘inner triangle’ targets like Engram and Harvey will get defenses out of some of their two-high looks and open up clearer deep-ball shots. If Nix can improve his efficiency with those shots, the Broncos can start forcing defenses into increasingly difficult decisions.”

Nix finished third in Offensive Rookie of the Year Award voting and gave the Broncos numerous reasons to believe that he will prove to be the club’s long-term answer at quarterback. According to Pro Football Reference, he ended his first pro regular season ranked sixth in the NFL with 29 passing touchdowns, 12th with 3,775 passing yards and 18th among qualified players with a 93.3 passer rating.

As Kosmider mentioned, Nix was responsible for highlight-reel touchdown passes thrown to wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. over a pair of December games. Broncos head coach Sean Payton clearly wants to see more of those so-called “big boy throws” from Nix this coming fall:
