Dillon Gabriel had a few teachable moments in his preseason debut with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday.
The third-round pick went 13-of-18 passing for 143 yards in the Browns’ 22-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Gabriel lost one fumble on a bad handoff that was recovered by rookie safety Andrew Mukuba. He also threw a pick-six to Mukuba early in the second quarter.
The pick-six play was doomed from the start as it looked like someone ran the wrong route. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson and tight end Blake Whiteheart were in the same area, and Gabriel made an ill-advised decision to throw into a tight window between the two pass catchers.
Neither Whiteheart nor Johnson made an aggressive move to secure the pass, and Mukuba took the ball back 75 yards for a score.
