What a difference a year makes.
In his rookie NFL campaign in 2024, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams threw for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions — very solid numbers, especially for a rookie.
But Chicago went 5-12 in a season that ended with 10 losses in a row before a season-ending win over the Green Bay Packers.
In the grand scheme of things, that win over the Packers was relatively forgettable for Williams and the Bears, who were focused on re-grouping for 2025.
On Saturday evening, Williams engineered a comeback victory over the Packers that should be much more memorable than the aforementioned Week 18 win over Green Bay in 2024.
Thirteen days after Williams threw a game-sealing interception in a 28-21 loss to Green Bay at Lambeau Field, he made the greatest throw of his career against the Packers on Saturday, hurling a walk-off bomb to DJ Moore that puts Chicago in the catbird’s seat in regard to the NFC North race.
But before Williams became the hero of Saturday’s contest, he first had to get his team in position for heroics. Trailing 16-6 with 5:03 to play, Williams drove his team into field goal range, where Cairo Santos made it a 16-9 game with 1:59 to go.
After Chicago miraculously recovered an onside kick, Williams drove the Bears inside the 10-yard line. But after a pair of incomplete passes, Chicago faced a fourth-and-four from the Green Bay six-yard line.
Facing heavy pressure on an all-out blitz, Williams backpedaled and floated a perfect TD pass to Jahdae Walker that ended up being the game-tying score.
