Los Angeles Chargers star quarterback Justin Herbert has been spotted make an interesting change at training camp, as he has been seen wearing red-tinted, UV-protection contact lenses to improve his vision on sunlit days. The lenses, which give off a red coloring, function like built-in sunglasses.
Instead of wearing a tinted visor, a tool that has felt impractical for players due to frequent cleaning, Herbert has found the contacts to be just as effective and more practical. Herbert debuted the new look during training camp, and addressed them during an interview with the media.
“They’re like sunglasses contacts, UV protectants…When I stepped into the huddle, I think a few people were a little surprised.” Herbert said to local media.
