After being released by the Atlanta Falcons this offseason, veteran wide receiver Darnell Mooney is taking his talents up the East Coast.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mooney is signing a one-year deal with the New York Giants worth up to $10 million.

Mooney had spent the last two seasons with the Falcons after signing a three-year, $39 million contract following his four-year tenure with the Chicago Bears. Releasing him saved Atlanta $7.4 million in cap space, though the team also incurred an $11 million dead money charge.

In his first year with the Falcons, Mooney was a key contributor in the passing attack and produced 64 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns. Unfortunately, he was unable to maintain that level of production in 2025.

In 15 games this past season, Mooney finished with just 32 receptions for 443 yards and one touchdown. He didn’t reach the 100-yard mark in any game, and he had nine outings in which he finished with 25 yards or fewer.

A 2020 fifth-round pick by the Bears, Mooney is known for his field-stretching abilities. He averages 13.0 yards per reception in his six-year career.

If Mooney can regain his old form with the Giants, he will be a strong complementary piece in the passing game led by Jaxson Dart. A strong year for Mooney would certainly boost New York’s chances of competing for a playoff spot in 2026.
