While Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is set to hold a private workout with the New York Giants on Thursday, NFL insider Connor Hughes of SNY said in his latest mailbag that he doesn’t “think the Giants love Sanders” enough to make the polarizing prospect the third overall pick of the 2025 draft.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen spoke with reporters on Wednesday and strongly indicated he is under no pressure to take Sanders or any other signal-caller in the first round after the club signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency.

“We’ve put ourselves in a position where I don’t think that’s mandatory or something where our feet are to the fire,” Schoen said about possibly drafting a quarterback at pick No. 3, as Ryan Novozinsky of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com shared. “The two guys we signed have played a lot of ball. They have a lot of skin on the wall. We’ve upgraded that room from where it was a year ago. I like what we have.”

It’s believed the Tennessee Titans will make Miami signal-caller Cam Ward the draft’s first pick and that the quarterback-needy Cleveland Browns will select Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter over Sanders at No. 2. As of Wednesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter as the betting favorite at -270 odds to be the draft’s third choice.

Newsday’s Tom Rock thinks the Giants could grab Carter with the third pick and then trade back into the first round for a quarterback like Sanders or Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart. Schoen didn’t sound all that eager to give up multiple assets to land any of the signal-callers available to him during the draft.

“I mean there’s some depth to it,” Schoen said about the often-criticized quarterback draft class. “There’s some good players for various reasons — different ages, different playing time experiences. There’s quarterbacks in this draft that will go on to be starters in the league.”

In his mock draft updated on Wednesday, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler predicted the Giants will make Carter the draft’s third pick and then take Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe at selection No. 34. The Giants ideally would stash Milroe on the roster as an unused backup through at least all of the 2025 season so he could improve his passing mechanics.
