The Miami Dolphins are coming off another frustrating season after failing to make the playoffs in 2024.

That is nothing new for a franchise that has only advanced to the postseason twice in the last five years since QB Tua Tagovailoa joined the team as the 2020 draft’s fifth pick.

Mike McDaniel took over in 2022 as Miami’s head coach, but the Dolphins have failed to win more than nine games in two of those three seasons and finished below .500 (8-9) last year.

The lack of results, particularly against quality opponents, is why Super Bowl-winning defensive end and current ESPN NFL analyst Chris Canty feels that both are on the hot seat entering the 2025 campaign.

“There is no quarterback, head coach tandem under more pressure coming into 2025 than Mike McDaniel and Tua Tagovailoa,” Canty said Friday during an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take.” “They are under the most pressure. They’ve been there long enough, no playoff success to speak of. You’re talking about being 3-14 against teams with a winning record, 1-11 against teams above .500 over the past two years.”
