Despite being without star wide receiver Davante Adams in Week 4, the Las Vegas Raiders (2-2) were able to defeat the Cleveland Browns (1-3), 20-16, and get back to .500.
It was a much-needed win for the Raiders, but the absence of Adams still caused trade rumors surrounding him to resurface.
The rumors that Las Vegas could move off Adams began this offseason. However, he was not moved then, and ESPN insider Adam Schefter doesn’t expect that to change now.
“I don’t see the Raiders trading him. I don’t see that happening,” Schefter said Monday on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “…The Raiders got multiple inquiries this summer and basically didn’t even entertain the conversation. They were like, ‘Please, stop calling us. We’re not trading Davante Adams.'”
Adams was ruled out of the game after suffering a hamstring injury during last Thursday’s practice.
It’s an injury that is expected to sideline him on a week-to-week basis, leaving when he’ll make his return to the field up in the air.
The Raiders were able to win without Adams this week, but if that doesn’t remain true in the coming weeks, Schefter admits that could change their mind.
“Now, if their record is such that they’re losing games and they fall out of playoff contention, could and would that change? Absolutely it could,” Schefter added. “But that’s not how they’re thinking. They’re thinking, ‘We’re gonna keep winning like we did yesterday. We’re going to get this back on track, and Davante Adams is gonna be a part of this.'”
Moving on from Adams is clearly not a decision that Las Vegas is ready to make right now, and rightfully so.
The 2024 NFL trade deadline is set for Monday, Nov. 4, which is still a little over a month away. So the Raiders still have plenty of time to assess where their season is heading.
For now, Las Vegas is solely focused on Week 5, when it goes on the road to face its AFC West rival, the Denver Broncos (2-2), who are coming off a much-needed win themselves.
