Stock down: Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford
This might be a little unfair to Stafford given the injury situation at wide receiver where both Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp are injured, but the bottom line is Stafford has been a little inconsistent for the Rams through the first four games of the season.
He has only thrown two touchdowns in four games, and has failed to have a passer rating top 86 in two of his first four starts.
Going into Week 4 his 89.2 passer rating is 20th in the NFL while his total QBR of 54.9 is 15th in the league.
Stock up: San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason
The biggest story in the NFC West, and perhaps the entire NFC at this point, is the emergence of running back Jordan Mason during his fill-in duty for the injured Christian McCaffrey.
McCaffrey was one of the focal points of the 49ers offense a year ago in winning the NFL’s offensive player of the year. He is a great player, but Mason is showing that playing in the 49ers system also helps running backs quite a bit.
Mason is second in the NFL with 447 yards rushing entering Week 5 of the season (trailing only Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens), while also scoring three touchdowns and topping the 100-yard mark in three of his first four starts. He has also averaged at least four yards per carry in every game.
Whether McCaffrey returns this season or not, Mason has proven himself worthy of getting significant playing time and touches in the 49ers offense all season.
Stock down: Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Nick Rallis
Rallis might not have the most talent to work with, but through games the Cardinals are only 1-3 and again have one of the worst defenses in the NFL while showing almost no improvement from a year ago.
They are allowing 26.5 points per game (29th in the NFL), 146.5 rushing yards per game (27th in the NFL), 208.3 passing yards per game (18th in the NFL) and 354.8 total yards per game (25th in the NFL).
They are still in a rebuilding mode and trying to add more talent, but the lack of progress and the way they were completely out-classed against Buffalo and Washington in Weeks 1 and 4 is a big problem.
