Polish speedskater Kamila Sellier was stretchered out of Milano Ice Skating Arena after another skater’s blade slashed her face near her left eye during the women’s 1,500 meter quarterfinal on Friday at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
Sellier was injured in a crash also involving Italy’s Ariana Fontana and the United States’ Kristen Santos-Griswold.
She received medical attention on the ice before she was carried out of the arena.
Polish officials said Sellier’s left eye was okay following the incident, according to the AP’s Dave Skretta. She received stitches and will undergo more tests, per Skretta.
A member of Poland’s coaching staff said he believed Sellier had suffered a facial fracture, per the CBC’s Devin Heroux.
