It has been nearly a month since Aaron Rodgers was released by the New York Jets, but the star quarterback still has not committed to a new team.
With only one known suitor remaining, there has been speculation that Rodgers could simply retire. Very few people are expecting that to happen.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media said on Monday that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only team Rodgers is going to play for in 2025 if the former MVP chooses to continue his career. Though Rodgers supposedly prefers the Minnesota Vikings, the NFC North team is fully committed to J.J. McCarthy.
That means Rodgers really has two choices: Steelers or retirement. The latter is viewed as unlikely, according to Rapoport.
“So, the update is really that there’s no update. It’s right where we thought. It’s a lot of positive momentum with Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers,” Rapoport said. “It seems like that’s the most likely place, by far. He just hasn’t come out and said it yet. Meanwhile, the specter of possible retirement doesn’t seem likely but at least will be considered an option until he makes a decision, so that’s where we are.”
