The New York Giants are being linked to a beleaguered quarterback before free agency starts on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET.

During a Sunday episode of “SportsCenter,” ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler said the Giants could be a landing spot for free-agent QB Russell Wilson if he doesn’t re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“But Wilson should have some options, too,” Fowler said (h/t Bleacher Report’s Scott Polacek). “Talking to some ex-Seattle aides, they said that [Las Vegas Raiders head coach] Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson have pieced it up, so maybe Las Vegas could shake out for him. I’m also told the Giants are considered a sleeper option for Russell Wilson.”

The Giants signing Wilson may not be a popular choice. Over the past three seasons, the 36-year-old has looked like a declining player.

In two seasons with the Denver Broncos, Wilson went 11-19 as a starter in the regular season. The Super Bowl champion guided the Steelers to the playoffs in 2024 but generated underwhelming numbers. In 11 regular-season starts, he went 6-5, finishing 22nd in the league in passing yards (2,482), touchdown passes (16) and QBR (51.3).

Wilson could still be an upgrade for the Giants, who have a massive hole at the most important position. In 2024, New York cut QB Daniel Jones after he went 2-8 in 10 starts. Backup QBs Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock then split starts, and New York finished 3-14.

If they sign Wilson, the Giants should still consider drafting a QB with pick No. 3 in the 2025 NFL Draft, perhaps Miami’s Cam Ward. In his latest mock draft, ESPN’s Field Yates has New York selecting Ward.

Adding Wilson as a bridge QB may be one of the Giants’ better options this offseason. He could be serviceable and give a rookie QB time to develop.
