Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon has reportedly settled a civil lawsuit related to a shooting that took place outside his home.
A teenager was shot outside of Mixon’s home in Anderson Township, Ohio, in March 2023. The boy was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. Mixon was never a suspect in the incident.
A man named Lamonte Brewer, who was said to be Mixon’s sister’s boyfriend, was charged in connection with the incident. He admitted that he fired the gun in the direction of some teenagers who were playing with Nerf guns on the property. Brewer pleaded guilty last year to one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Brewer, 36, was sentenced in a Cincinnati court on Tuesday to five years in a federal prison, with credit for time served.
While Mixon was never charged, he was named in a lawsuit that was filed in August 2023. Court documents stated that the victim’s family was seeking damages from Mixon and Brewer.
On Tuesday, Sheree Paolello of WLWT reported that Mixon recently settled the civil lawsuit. No details have been released per the terms of the settlement.
