After making three consecutive Pro Bowl and being named a first team All-Pro in 2022 and 2024, Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II will add the AP Defensive Player of the Year award to his resume. Despite the fact a defensive back hadn’t won the award since 2019, former Bronco great Champ Bailey said he expected Surtain II to get the honor this season.
“He’s been great. He’s only gotten better every year,” he told Elisa Hernandez at Radio Row at the Super Bowl.
“He is exactly what you expect from somebody you draft. You come in, you learn, and you just ball out. He’s not doing anything I didn’t expect from him, so I expect him to be recognized accordingly.”
Bailey nailed the call for the fourth-year pro who defended 11 passes, intercepted four (and taking one back for a touchdown) and making 45 tackles in 16 games this season.
