Once reports started circulating saying the Las Vegas Raiders are open to trading Devante Adams, fans and media have been speculating about which teams would make sense as trade partners. Adams’ star power and talent make him an extremely attractive asset for a contender.
Here are three teams that should pursue a trade for Adams:
Pittsburgh Steelers
Ever since shipping away Diontae Johnson to the Panthers during the offseason, receiver depth has been a glaring weakness for the Steelers. Pittsburgh made a run at acquiring Brandon Aiyuk to fill that void, but Adams would arguably provide even more of a boost for an inconsistent offense.
The Steelers have only reached 20 points in a game twice so far this season, with one of those being in a loss. George Pickens is the Steelers’ top receiving threat, but has only been able to surpass 100 yards in game once. Beyond Pickens, Calvin Austin III did step up against the Chargers with four receptions for 95 yards. However, he’s only caught three balls for 30 yards in the other three games combined.
Regardless of who’s under center for the Steelers — Justin Fields has been the starting even though Russell Wilson still looms over him as a replacement option when healthy — defenses are able to neutralize Pickens in hopes of derailing Pittsburgh’s passing game. Adding Adams would open up space for the entire offense and make sure defenses can’t simply blanket Pickens with multiple defenders.
Buffalo Bills
While the Steelers are in desperate need of a player like Adams, the Bills may need him even more. Buffalo is sitting at the top of the AFC East, but is void of a true No. 1 wide receiver.
Khalil Shakir has become Josh Allen‘s top target, making 18 catches for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns while rookie Keon Coleman has been productive as well, but Adams would replace what Stefon Diggs was for Buffalo.
With expectations high, the Bills are looking to cash in and make a Super Bowl run this year. And the prospects of that happening took a major hit after being dominated by Baltimore on the national stage of Monday Night Football.
New York Jets
Led by a 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers, few teams are facing more pressure to win big this season than the Jets. And that pressure, combined with a struggling offense and a 2-2 record, could cause New York to retract by risking their future to bring in a playmaker like Adams.
Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard are solid, but they haven’t been enough. Rodgers to Adams was also once one of the best quarterback-to-receiver combinations in the NFL. Knowing there’s existing chemistry between Adams and Rodgers from their time together in Green Bay makes a reunion intriguing.
Many teams would love to have Adams, who has 18 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown with the Raiders so far this season, but his current contact may act as an obstacle in getting a deal done.
