Stefon Diggs has generated some negative headlines ahead of his first mandatory minicamp with the New England Patriots, but that does not mean the team is having second thoughts about signing him.

Diggs was present at the Patriots’ voluntary workout on Monday. While discussing the star wide receiver’s decision to show up in the wake of some recent drama, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media addressed the rumblings that the Patriots might consider cutting Diggs.

The reporter said it is not happening.

“My understanding is the team does not plan to cut Stefon Diggs,” Rapoport said. “He is a very good player. They intend to pay him a lot of money. They haven’t yet, but they intend to pay him a lot of money, especially after he passed the physical from his ACL recovery. It does seem to be on track.

“This is a player they want to keep, want to be making plays for them. That’s why they signed him in free agency to such fanfare. He’s just gotta be better, and (showing up Monday) was a step in the right direction for Diggs and certainly something that the Patriots welcomed.”
