The Green Bay Packers are moving on from one of their best defensive players.

Veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander was informed on Monday that he will be released by the Packers, according to multiple reports.

The Packers had looked into potential trades involving Alexander before the NFL Draft, but nothing materialized. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media says the two sides then discussed a possible restructured contract and could not find common ground.

Now, Alexander is headed for free agency.
