Second-year Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is trying to prepare for the 2025 regular season while not knowing if one of his offense’s best pieces will be on the 53-man roster for Week 1.

On Thursday, wide receiver Terry McLaurin requested a trade from the Commanders after not coming close to a new deal with general manager Adam Peters.

On Saturday, Quinn talked to the media about his thoughts on the trade request. Quinn said it’s just a part of business in the modern NFL, but hopes McLaurin returns to practice soon.

“We love Terry,” Quinn said via video from JP Finlay of NBC 4. “I’m really glad he’s here. Hopefully he’s out practicing soon. We also understand there’s the business side of this, things that Adam and his side and Terry and his reps are working through. I just kind of stay in that space. We recognize both are happening.

“But like I said, I’m really glad he’s here. I love coaching him. But the business side, that’s kind of where it’s at. It’s not — somebody asked me if it’s a distraction — it is not. Players today, they’re more aware of contracts and things maybe than they used to be. They recognize that business part happens, as well.”
