The Kansas City Chiefs’ coaching staff might go through a major overhaul in the offseason.
Both defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy are considered head coaching candidates. Nagy’s contract is about to expire.
Nagy has drawn plenty of criticism since replacing Eric Bieniemy, and with the Chiefs’ offense failing to achieve its past glories, Andy Reid should be quite aggressive in his pursuit of a potential replacement.
That’s why he should be licking his chops after the Washington Commanders’ shocking decision to part ways with Kliff Kingsbury.
The Chiefs should reunite Kliff Kingsbury with Patrick Mahomes
Kingsbury was Patrick Mahomes’ head coach at Texas Tech. With that in mind, ESPN’s Nate Taylor argued that he could pull some strings to get him on the team.
“It would be difficult for Andy Reid not to go with Kliff Kingsbury, if that’s what Patrick Mahomes wanted,” Taylor said on 96.5 The Fan.
Kingsbury has previous head coaching experience with the Arizona Cardinals, and he thrived in the first year with Jayden Daniels.
While his offense might be a little too college-style, he’s great at scheming guys open, and Andy Reid’s play-calling might be just what his offense needs.
Coach Reid is known for his offensive expertise, but the team has regressed in multiple areas in the years since Bieniemy left.
And with the front office looking to give Mahomes the type of supporting cast he needs to get back to the mountaintop, it’s hard to think of a more ideal suitor than the coach who helped him get drafted No. 10 in 2017.
