Earlier in the offseason, undrafted free agent Shilo Sanders went viral for all the wrong reasons — again.
Cleveland Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot reported that, according to her sources, Deshaun Watson was leading the quarterback race in Cleveland.
Looking to defend his brother, Shedeur, Shilo took to social media to tell Cabot to “make him a sandwich,” understandably drawing massive backlash.
Now, weeks later, his father Deion fueled the fire in an appearance on “The Barbershop” podcast. When asked about the incident, he stood by his son.
Deion Sanders misses the point on Shilo Sanders’ comments
“We don’t talk about nobody,” Deion said. “We don’t do nothing to nobody. I know Shilo had a little altercation that he spoke up for his brother. You’ve got to understand, man, that’s his brother. And God bless Mary Kay’s soul, that’s his brother. I mean, she said something, he said something, like media is different today. I know a lot of people don’t respect the old school. I do, because I grew up in that era that we didn’t have a say so … But Shilo spoke up for his brother, and he was ridiculed for that.”
Time and time again, Deion has talked about raising men of integrity, yet he’ll justify his son telling a woman to make him a sandwich for doing her job.
There are countless ways to stand up for your family, and even if he felt Cabot had an agenda, that’s not going to do his brother any favors.
Shedeur entered the league amid major controversy, and while he’s done his best to avoid the spotlight for the most part, this only hurts the narrative around him.
There’s no way to justify taking sexist shots at a reporter who’s just doing her job. It’s not up to her to decide the Browns’ quarterback pecking order, regardless of how she may or may not feel about the position.
Shilo wasn’t ridiculed for speaking up for his brother; he was ridiculed for doing so in an immature, disrespectful and sexist way.
