While speaking at the New York Giants‘ town hall event in Manhattan this past Monday, first-year head coach John Harbaugh fired up Giants fans when he said he wants to take the franchise “in the direction of being a good enough football team to kick” the Dallas Cowboys’ a–.
Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb later captioned a post related to Harbaugh’s comment with: “lol that’s cute.” During a Thursday news conference, Harbaugh had an opportunity to respond to Lamb.

“I love CeeDee’s comeback by the way,” Harbaugh said, per the Giants’ website. “It was cute. It was cute. Comeback was cute, too. So it was good.”
During his initial comments, Harbaugh insisted that he could “care less about what’s happened last year or the year before that or 10 years before that.” According to Darryl Slater of NJ Advance Media, the Giants have gone 2-16 against the Cowboys since Week 1 of the 2017 season. Big Blue will open the 2026 campaign with a home “Sunday Night Football” matchup versus Dallas on Sept. 13.
“We’re responsible as a football team to be our very best and go out there and be good enough to win the games that we need to win,” Harbaugh said on Thursday. “That’s our job.”
Does John Harbaugh have the Cowboys’ game circled on his calendar?
Excited Giants fans already have Sept. 13 circled on their calendars. What Harbaugh said during the town hall could lead one to believe he also is counting down the days until New York hosts Dallas, but he suggested on Thursday that he wants his players to focus on improving from springtime workouts through the end of the preseason before they begin preparing for the rivalry showdown.
“The point is that that’s what we got to be focused on, the very next thing,” Harbaugh continued during his comments. “Life is lived going forward. Not looking back. But it’s understood looking back, so let’s understand where we come from, and let’s get ready for the next challenge, which is really our next game. It’s also our next day, be as prepared as we can be for that next game.”
Either intentionally or unintentionally, Harbaugh clearly attracted the attention of some Dallas players at the town hall. Only time will tell if Harbaugh’s players will back up his talk with their actions in front of a prime-time audience this September.
