There’s an elephant in the room for Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions. Well, it’s more like a question in the room that nobody wants to think about right now.
Basically, the Lions are facing the idea that their Super Bowl window may have closed. The 2024-25 season could have been their chance in this era. They still had Ben Johnson then. They were totally on fire, until they weren’t.
So, even though they’re not far removed from that lineup, there’s a real, serious question about where this franchise is heading and if their dream of finally getting to the big game for the first time is already behind them.
Dan Campbell faces a defining question for the Lions in 2026
The staff at ESPN has released its training camp previews for all 32 NFL teams, and for the Lions, this is what they bring up. They flat-out ask if the team’s Super Bowl window has closed for good.
“From 2023 to 2025, the Lions entered the season as legitimate Super Bowl contenders,” Eric Woodyard said. “However, they fell way short of expectations in 2025 and were faced with a lot of decisions to make this offseason.”
Now, the Lions have Drew Petzing as their offensive coordinator, who came from the Arizona Cardinals, a franchise with a much worse record than the Lions. That’s troubling, but let’s wait for the snaps to judge.
On the bright side for Detroit, Woodyard pointed out that this offense is still absolutely on fire, with quarterback Jared Goff at the helm. It’s not over until it’s over.
