The Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers are coming up on one more season together, and Rodgers has made it clear that this year is his final run in the NFL.
Not everyone is a fan of Rodgers coming back to the Steelers because it prolongs the franchise’s chance to get a quarterback in the fold and is a temporary fix. But Rodgers is an MVP-winning quarterback, and there’s no reason to be mad about someone of his caliber returning to Pittsburgh.
The Steelers have a strong offensive lineup, and new head coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Omar Khan clearly signed Rodgers to win games. They also brought on a bevy of offensive targets for the 2026 season, including wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard and running back Rico Dowdle, which shows that they’re serious about doing well this season.
But Rodgers will do more than just win games for the Steelers. He’s going to help shape their players of the future.
Aaron Rodgers brings experience to the Steelers in 2026, and that helps in the future
Rodgers and the Steelers are set up for success in the present, but having Rodgers in the fold will also set this franchise up for the future. Even if the franchise is wobbly on their quarterback situation, Rodgers will be able to help mentor budding quarterbacks Will Howard and Drew Allar. That’s huge for the future of this team.
Of course, Allar and Howard are long shots to be the Steelers’ franchise quarterback in the future. But Rodgers will also help mold this team’s offense during the 2026 season, and that is also a benefit for this franchise for years to come. Even if having Rodgers back for another year seems like a delay of the inevitable, it’ll help the future of this team more than many expect.
