The Steelers announced that they have signed third-round quarterback Drew Allar to his four-year rookie deal. The team now has all 10 members of its 2026 draft class under contract.
Allar, the 76th overall pick out of Penn State, will earn approximately $7.1MM on his first NFL pact. He entered the week as one of a handful of unsigned first-year quarterbacks, but the logjam began to clear when the Cardinals got third-rounder Carson Beck (No. 65 overall) under contract on Wednesday. A much bigger domino fell when the Raiders signed first overall pick Fernando Mendoza on Thursday.
The Rams’ Ty Simpson, taken 13th overall, is the lone rookie signal-caller who has not put pen to paper. Patriots edge defender Gabe Jacas (second round, 55th overall) is the only other 2026 draftee who hasn’t signed, but his holdup is related to an injury.
Allar is now in position to be a full training camp participant for the Steelers, who will hold their first practice on July 29. The 22-year-old will enter the proceedings behind starter Aaron Rodgers and reserves Mason Rudolph and Will Howard on the depth chart. Rudolph and Howard will compete for second-string duties, leaving Allar in a developmental role at the beginning of his career. Head coach Mike McCarthy and QBs coach Tom Arth quickly got to work on rebuilding Allar’s mechanics after the draft, and they will continue getting him up to speed over the summer.
With Rodgers set to retire after 2026, Allar could emerge as a starting candidate next year if he makes enough progress behind the scenes. Allar was a three-year starter at Penn State, where he completed 63.2% of attempts and tossed 61 touchdowns against 13 interceptions in 45 games. He ranks third in school history in TD passes and fourth in yards (7,402).
