Bold Prediction: Gavin McKenna has a monster rookie season
It seemed that McKenna lost some of his pre-draft hype this season, even creating some doubt as to whether or not he would still be the No. 1 overall pick.
A lot of that was due to the fact he chose to go the NCAA route and play against significantly tougher competition. Had he played in the CHL, dominated a bunch of 16, 17, and 18 year-olds and put up 180 points or something similar, he likely would have had the same hype that he did coming into the season. But the NCAA is a higher level of play, and he still had an outstanding season. That is only going to make him more NHL ready. Add in the fact he is joining a team that has Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Matthew Knies on it and he is also going to be in a nice situation with high-level players around him.
He is not only going to be the Calder Trophy favorite, he might run away with it.
