Heading into the fourth year of the Bryce Young era in Charlotte, the Carolina Panthers have already picked up the fifth-year option for the first-overall pick from the 2023 NFL Draft.
But despite winning the NFC South and giving the Los Angeles Rams a serious run for their money in the Wild Card round, the Panthers still haven’t finished above .500 since 2017. With a long-term decision looming for Panthers brass about their (for now) franchise quarterback, head coach Dave Canales addressed if he thinks Young is the guy for Carolina going forward.
“He is right now. He’s our guy, and I love the trajectory he’s on,” Canales told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
“Whether we’re up or down, I love having Bryce out there. I love that he stays calm, cool and collected. So, all those things are pointing in the right direction. I’ll just let the rest of that stuff sort itself out.”
The Panthers went 8-8 with Young under center in 2025, and he threw for a career-high 3,011 yards and 23 touchdowns to go with 11 interceptions. He did start to earn a reputation for coming up clutch, authoring four fourth-quarter comebacks and six game-winning drives in 2025.
But if he wants to get paid he probably needs to show more personal development – and a winning record wouldn’t hurt either.
