Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson detailed his recent conversation with Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs regarding their respective contract situations.
“We just told each other, ‘Just hang in there, everything’s going to get done, everything’s going to be all right,'” Robinson said Wednesday, per ESPN’s Marc Raimondi. “And it’s cool to see him go through it, too. And I hope he gets the most out of what he deserves because he deserves it — deserves it all.”
Both Robinson and Gibbs started training camp by holding in with their teams, being present at practice despite not participating as they searched for new deals.
On Tuesday, Robinson and the Falcons agreed to a three-year extension that can be worth up to $75 million. He became the highest-paid running back in NFL history.
Meanwhile, Gibbs is still awaiting a new contract.
The 24-year-old addressed his hold-in when speaking to reporters on Monday.
“Only time will tell,” Gibbs said regarding his return to the field.
“What I’m … aiming towards? Ah, I don’t know,” he added.
Both Robinson and Gibbs have established themselves among the top players at their position, with the former coming off a 2025 campaign on the Falcons in which he rushed for 1,478 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 5.1 yards per carry. He also caught 79 passes for 820 yards.
As for Gibbs, he amassed 1,839 all-purpose yards and 18 total touchdowns while earning his third consecutive Pro Bowl nod for Detroit.
