Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch and referee Tony Brothers had to be separated following a verbal altercation during Minnesota’s 115-108 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of their second-round playoff series.

Finch later explained the situation, which occurred after he called for a timeout earlier than it was granted.

“I had called it three seconds earlier and I wanted the timeout and I said, ‘I want my three seconds back,'” Finch told reporters after the game. “Because he clearly heard me. He looked my way, ignored me, went on with the play and almost cost us a turnover. He lost it. Then I went to ask him where the ball was going to be taken in and he was screaming at me for that. So, completely unprofessional behavior by him.”

While the Timberwolves only trailed by one point midway through the fourth quarter, the Spurs were still able to hold on for the win and take a 2-1 series lead.
