Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin insists his age is just a number.

On Monday, the Commanders signed McLaurin to a three-year, $97M extension. The move could be risky for Washington. The former Ohio State Buckeyes star turns 30 on Sept. 15, the point when WRs can drop off.

Former Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp (now with the Seattle Seahawks) hasn’t looked the same since turning 30 on June 15, 2023. Over his past two seasons with the Rams, the Super LVI MVP failed to surpass 737 receiving yards.

McLaurin, though, believes he’s an outlier.

“Fortunately for me, I’m only going into my seventh season. … I’ve also been blessed to never have a surgery or major injury,” the WR told the media Wednesday. “I take care of my body at an elite level. As much as I put on the field, I do as much off the field. … Only time will tell, but just in January I ran a screen for like a 60-yard touchdown.”

McLaurin was likely referring to a 58-yard touchdown in a 45-31 upset over the Detroit Lions in the 2024 NFC divisional round. Did he look like a player who’s slowing on that play?
