The Commanders announced the signings of offensive linemen Daniel Brunskill and Nicholas Petit-Frere on Saturday.
The moves come one day after star left tackle Laremy Tunsil left practice with an injury to his shoulder/neck area. He is being evaluated with the potential to miss some practice time depending on the results of medical testing, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Head coach Dan Quinn also revealed (via ESPN’s John Keim) that center Nick Allegretti is also expected to miss a second week of practice due to a calf injury. (Tight end John Bates is in the same situation, Quinn added.)
Brunskill, 32, is Washington’s most experienced addition. He has 108 appearances in his seven-year career, primarily at right guard, though he started eight games at center for the Titans in 2024. Last year, he appeared in 16 games for the Dolphins. He was credited with five starts due to his role as a sixth offensive lineman for ‘jumbo’ packages but only played 39 snaps at a traditional OL spot, per Pro Football Focus (subscription required).
Petit-Frere, 26, was a Titans third-round pick in 2022 who started 38 games at right tackle from 2022 to 2024. He was waived last offseason and spent the spring with the 49ers, but did not remain in San Francisco for training camp or the regular season. The Ohio State product will add tackle depth in Washington after Tunsil’s injury.
